Harry Reid: My Hero

Sure, it's easy to excoriate Harry Reid for spreading scurrilous rumors about Willard Romney's tax returns--oh, the humanity! Have we sunk so low in our political discourse that the media would actually give such scurrilous drivel a moment's attention? You betcha!

And for that, Harry Reid deserves our thanks. It's been thirty years wallowing in the muck of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, and the D's have lost election after election by taking the moral high ground. Enough with the high ground, time to turn the table on the plutocrats and their fascist hordes, and go for the gut.

The 'merican people do not vote their super ego, they vote their id. For how long have people of good faith and tolerant values attempted to reason with the forces of darkness--the many millioned minions of intolerance and fear who hate the "Other", and out of this hatred give over their power to the very plutocrats who oppress them? I'm so done!

Let's face it, there is no reason that the R's should not win this election by a landslide. The economy is in the toilet (because of the policies of the R's). The D's will be out-funded and out-advertised at every turn (chump change for billionaires). Oh, also, our candidate is a black man. They should have it in the bag.

Any yet, I'm starting to feel that we have a real fight on our hand. For the first time in my memory (and the first president I voted for was Jimmy Carter), the D's are fighting back. Obama is taking it to the other side, and asking hard questions. The ads he's putting up are brutal, as well they should be--these are brutal times, and if working people want to vote for an oligarch, that's fine, but at least they should know what they are voting for (and no, stupid, I don't think that Obama is the working man's savior--he's a politician, nothing more and nothing less--and a center right politician at that--but come on, look at the other side!).

The R's have been bringing nothing but dirt for thirty years, but seems like this time their hubris has gotten the best of them. Muslim, socialist, Kenyan, what else can they bring? (Don't worry, they'll think of something.) Meantime, they have a weak candidate, and his anti-working class cred can and should and must be exploited not only by the president but also by every down-ballot politician in the country. Let's show these dolts a bit of their own medicine. Let's argue our ids.

These are tough times. Clarifying times. Time to fight--to take it to the enemy, and do whatever it takes to win. I understand it's not pleasant for moral, thinking people, but for how much longer are we going to put up with this shit? In other words, how much more suffering can working people tolerate.

Harry Reid: you are my hero.
